Xinjiang Targets Cotton Acreage 25 Percent Below 2007/08 Levels

Cotton acreage in Xinjiang Province is set to experience a major decline in the years ahead. According to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the province planted 1,782,600 hectares to cotton in 2007/08; but over the next 3 to 5 years cotton acreage should be reduced to less than 1,333,333 hectares.
